JANUARY, 2012

January 8, 2012 (Sunday) — Floresville, Texas.  Grove speaks at Floresville Community Church, Pastor Joel Odom.  Sunday School at 0930, with Grove speaking at main worship service at 1030 after showing of “The Heart of Texas.”  Floresville is south of San Antonio, not far from the Connally Penitentiary and Kenedy, Texas.

January 11, 2012 (Wednesday) — Missouri City, Texas.  Sienna Ranch Baptist Church. Special evening service kicking off a new Pastoral series, hosted by Rev. Bill Faulk.  Time:  6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Grove’s topic will be titled, “God Will Kick Off New Seasons of Our Lives.” Sienna Ranch Baptist Church is a Covenant Partner with The Heart of Texas Foundation.

January 12, 2012 (Thursday) — Texas City, Texas.  Event at the women’s prison, partnering with Discipleship Unlimited, and its founder, Linda Strom.  More event details will be posted here as they are available.  Grove will speak this evening and “The Heart of Texas” movie will be shown by Linda and her team.

January 16, 2012 (Monday) — HOTF Board meeting at Landry’s I-10 south feeder near Mason Road, Katy, Texas.  11:15-1:15, working lunch.

January 18-20, 2012 (Wednesday-Friday) — Grove hosts a VIP trip to “Angola Penitentiary” in Angola, Louisiana, to allow some select Texas Pastors to have a deeper view inside the famed Louisiana State Penitentiary.  Grove plans to take a trip each month in 2012, as he did in 2011, to allow interested Texas pastors to see the (watch this short video) “Angola model” we have used to create our unprecedented new prison Seminary in Darrington Penitentiary in Rosharon, Texas.  Watch this 25-minute video of the creation of the Angola Seminary.

  • More pastors are asking to go!  The pastors who will accompany Grove on this trip are part of a growing number of Senior Pastors who are from different denominations, but all are wanting to learn more about how their churches can take more responsibility for the survival of this amazing work of God at Darrington.
  • They will  learn more about  our work.  The pastors want to learn more about ministry opportunities for their members, and how we have been deeply involved in the creation of the historic new Darrington Seminary.   It’s hard to believe that it happened so miraculously, in less than one year’s time.  Our first and only Texas 4-year, SACS fully-accredited, Seminary which is located behind prison walls, razor-wire, and electrified fencing of the tough Darrington Penitentiary, one of our older and larger maximum-security facilities.
  • Many folks have helped us do it.  The pastors who will go with Grove have spent time with him learning about the formation of our new Seminary, in cooperation with Texas Senator John Whitmire, Texas Senator Dan Patrick, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary,  Louisiana Senior Warden Burl Cain and the staff of Louisiana State Penitentiary, Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc, Secretary of Corrections in Louisiana, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, the Houston College of Biblical Studies, and a number of private businesses, individuals, and churches in Texas and other states.

January 21, 2012 (Saturday) — Grove speaks at Light of the World Christian Fellowship, Pastor Jerry Martin, a Covenant Partner church with The Heart of Texas Foundation.  This will be a special session ministering to the families who are suffering the hurt of having sons, daughters, and relatives serving time locked in prison.

January 25, 2012 (Wednesday) — Grove escorts a small group of visitors on a special tour of the Darrington Seminary in Darrington Penitentiary, Rosharon, Texas, a ministry of The Heart of Texas Foundation.  Gate time: 10 am.

January 26, 2012 (Thursday) — Grove and volunteers travel to Frisco, Texas (NW of Fort Worth) to receive the donation of a number of books from a Theological Library of a Pastor who is now with the Lord.  His family has called and offered these precious books to our Darrington Seminary Theological Library, which we are building from “scratch”, with the help of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and– people like this pastor’s family, and YOU!!

January 27, 2012 (Friday) — Grove flies to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to be on hand for tomorrow’s visit to Eastwood Baptist Church.  This church has invited us to share the “Texas story” with them.

January 28, 2012 — Bowling Green, Kentucky.  Grove speaks in the Eastwood Baptist Church near Nashville, TN.

FEBRUARY, 2012

February 1-3, 2012 (Wednesday-Friday) — Grove Travels to Angola on special trip to develop a beginning Plan for our future use of Seminary Graduates as inmate ministers and assistants to be transferred, upon their graduation, to serve Chaplains in other Texas prisons.  Angola staff and graduate inmates have agreed top help Grove develop a beginning approach to this effort, which will mirror the Angola model of sending inmate “missionaries” into the other prisons of Louisiana, as they have been doing for many years.

February 9, 2012 (Thursday)Grove escorts supporters from Fredericksburg on a special tour of the Darrington Seminary in Darrington Penitentiary, Rosharon, Texas, a ministry of The Heart of Texas Foundation.  Gate time: 0930 am.

February 15, 2012 (Tuesday) –

  • 1000 — leave for Gleannloch Farms, Spring
  • 11:00 Meet Bob Knott for lunch at Gleannloch
  • 12:00 — Meet with Missions Committee at Windwood Presbyterian Church, Spring, Texas

February 16-19, 2012 (Thursday-Sunday) — We travel to Gatesville, Texas with Discipleship Unlimited and Linda Strom, author of the book, “Karla Fay Tucker”.  Well-known woman of God, Charla Pereau will be with us as well, to deliver messages into the women’s units.  We will present a series of messages to the inmates in some of the 14 prisons that surround Gatesville, including the women on Death Row.  Our Heart of Texas Foundation itinerary will be as follows:

February 20, 2012 (Monday) —  Take donated Library Books to Darrington Seminary – Taking to Darrington Seminary library staff, for initial processing, 1,000 donated books from Crestview Church of Christ in Waco, Texas.

February 21, 2012 (Tuesday) — Meeting with Warden Jones at Darrington, 1:00 pm, with Dr. Ben Phillips, Director of the Seminary.  Agenda:  expansion and Angola.

February 23-25, 2012 (Thursday-Saturday) –  Plane State Prison for Women, at Dayton, Texas.  The “One Day With God” weekend, partnering with Forgiven Ministry out of Alexander, North Carolina and other local volunteers and churches.  We will be bringing children of these mothers into the prison during this time, and ministering to the caregivers as well. If you’d like to sponsor a child ($175, which includes toys, food, supplies for one child), or join us as a volunteer, (men and women welcome), call Kenny Lentz, at 713-298-3020.

February 28, 2012 (Tuesday) — Meeting at Rise Program Building, 5815 Airline Drive, Houston – Hostess is Bridgette Jones, who will show “The Heart of Texas” Movie.  Grove will then tell the story of the Development of the Darrington Penitentiary Seminary.  Time: 11:30-1:00 pm. Video clips will be shown as well.  Directions: I-45 North to Airline exit.

MARCH, 2012

March 1, 2012 (Thursday) — President’s Luncheon at Houston College of Biblical Studies, to welcome the new President of the College, Dr. Bill Blocker.  Time, 12:00 noon, Room 104.

March 2, 2012 (Friday) — Plane State Prison for Women, Dayton, Texas.  ”Movie & Message”.  Gate Time: 4:30 pm for setup at Plane State. with service beginning around 6 pm.  General callout for Heart of Texas Foundation volunteers to join us for this exciting Chapel service for the women of this prison.

March 3, 2012 (Saturday) — Tres Dias Team meeting, Tomball.  Grove gives a talk to the team today. Start time:  0830.

March 5, 2012 (Monday) — Meeting with guests from Indiana, Mr. Mark Tarver and Father David Link.  They are interested in our work with the Texas Seminary at Darrington.  We will tell them “the story” in our Conference Room in the Somerset Building.  Time: 3 pm-5 pm.

March 6, 2012 (Tuesday) — Taking Indiana Guests to the Darrington Seminary for a visit to the Seminary Wing to meet the students and see the facilities.

March 12, 2012 (Monday) — Our day-long Seminar, “Heart of Forgiving” for the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, Cleveland Prison for men.  Time:  0800-1400. Cleveland, TX.

March 22, 2012 (Thursday) — Colorado Baptist Association luncheon, Stockdale, Texas.  Grove to speak to the pastors of this association, and will tell the story of the conception, development and deployment of the historic Darrington Seminary at the Darrington Penitentiary in Rosharon, Texas.  Pastors at this luncheon will be invited to join Grove for one of his monthly VIP trips to Angola for a special look at the Angola Seminary inside what was once known as “America’s bloodiest prison.”

March 22-24, 2012 — Southeast Texas Tres Dias #12, for Men; Sandy Creek Bible Camp, in Brenham, Texas.  Grove serves on the volunteer team as a Spiritual Director during this cloistered weekend for men.

March 28, 2012 (Wednesday) — We leave for Stockdale, Texas to spend the night, so as to be at a meeting of Pastors tomorrow.

March 29, 2012 (Thursday) — Grove to speak to 2 Area Pastor’s Councils as they meet in Stockdale, Texas, 9am-12 pm.  Grove will tell “The Story” of the historical events that have led to Texas’ first accredited, 4-year Seminary in the Texas prison system– located at Darrington Penitentiary, Rosharon, Texas.  Using short video clips and story-detail, Grove will give the “behind the scenes” look at the direct involvement of The Heart of Texas Foundation as we worked together with state, penal, and educational institutions to help give birth to the Seminary.  Churches all across Texas will have an interest in taking responsibility for keeping the Seminary growing.  If you are interested in having Grove tell the story, and come to your pastor’s council, association, or just your church, please call us at 281-346-8919 or email us at info@heartoftexasfoundation.org!  Leave here in time to be in Brenham, Texas, by 6 pm to begin Tres Dias #12, men’s retreat.

April 14, 2012 (Saturday) –  “Movie and Message” event at Beto Penitentiary, Palestine, Texas.  Grove will speak after the Chaplain shows the film documentary, “The Heart of Texas.”  A worship service that will fill the large chapel at Beto.  Details to follow as we receive them regarding gate time, event time, etc.  Setup Team:  We will likely need all of our equipment.

April 16, 2012 (Monday) — HOTF Board meeting at Landry’s I-10 south feeder near Mason Road, Katy, Texas.  11:15-1:15, working lunch.

April 17-19, 2012 (Wednesday-Friday) — To Angola, Louisiana.  We escort the Darrington Senior Warden, Mark Jones, Wynne Penitentiary Senior Warden Vernon Pittman, and Darrington executive staff Assistant Warden David Blackwell and Major Jerry Sanchez to Angola, LA to visit the Louisiana State Penitentiary, as guests of Warden Burl Cain.  We return to Texas the evening of the 19th.

April 19, 2012 (Thursday)  – 17th Annual Governor’s Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, Mr. Oliver J. Bell, Chairman.  Grove has been invited to be keynote speaker.  The meeting is to be held at the Crowne Plaza Austin Hotel, 6121 North IH-35, in Austin, Texas.  Phone 512-323-5466.  Time 11:00 am.

April 23, 2012 (Wednesday) — Visit to Darrington Penitentiary and the Darrington Seminary.k  Grove will be accompanied by his special guest Rev. Charles Woodward of New Braunfels.  Charles and his wife, JC, are supporters of The Heart of Texas Foundation.  We will meet with inmate students in the Seminary, and review new initiatives they are working on, share greetings from their inmate friends at the Angola Seminary in Louisiana, and allow Rev. Woodward to get to know the men and Dr. Ben Phillips, the Director of the Seminary.

April 27, 2012 — CANCELLED, TO BE RESCHEDULED:   Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Sugar Land, Texas.  “2012 Volunteer Appreciation Banquet,” Grove to speak.  Topic:  “The Mustard Seed Moment.”  Campus location to be announced.

April 29, 2012 (Sunday) — KKHT Radio 100.7 FM.   Grove joins KKHT talk show host, David Schultz,  with special guest Dr. Ben Phillips, the Director of the historic new Darrington Seminary at Darrington Penitentiary in Rosharon, Texas.  Ben and Grove will share some of the amazing things that have been occurring at the Darrington prison since the Seminary opened in August of 2011.

MAY, 2012

May 1-4, 2012 (Monday-Friday) — Houston College of Biblical Studies, teaching classes.  Monday through Friday.  Five consecutive day-long classes in the new course, “Introduction to Prison Ministries,” taught by Grove Norwood and Dr. Joe Parle, Dean of the College.   This course will be taught for credit and non-credit students; an intensive one-week 3-semester-hour course will feature lectures, discussions, videos and movies, outside representatives from a variety of prison ministries in Texas; a field trip to the historic new Darrington Seminary at Darrington Penitentiary in Rosharon, Texas; and outside reading.  Details will follow.  Contact Houston College of Biblical Studies for more details on the course in the spring of 2012.

May 17, 2012 (Thursday) — First Baptist Church, Friendswood, Texas.  We speak at a luncheon to this special group of friends.  Roger Patterson is coordinating this event.

May 19, 2021 (Saturday) — Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Sugarland, Texas.  Meetin for breakfast with special volunteers to join Kenny Lentz, of Forgiven Ministry, to talk about our partnership with Sugarland in the forthcoming Darrington prison event, “One Day With God Kid’s Camp”, in November, 2012.  For more information on this event, call Kenny at 713-298-3020.

  • They will  learn more about  our work.  The pastors want to learn more about ministry opportunities for their members, and how we have been deeply involved in the creation of the historic new Darrington Seminary.   It’s hard to believe that it happened so miraculously, in less than one year’s time.  Our first and only Texas 4-year, SACS fully accredited, Seminary which is located behind prison walls, razor-wire, and electrified fencing of the tough Darrington Penitentiary, one of our older and larger maximum-security facilities.
  • Many folks have helped us do it.  The pastors who will go with Grove have spent time with him learning about the formation of our new Seminary, developed in cooperation with Texas Senator John Whitmire, Texas Senator Dan Patrick, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary,  Louisiana Senior Warden Burl Cain and the staff of Louisiana State Penitentiary, Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc, Secretary of Corrections in Louisiana, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, the Houston College of Biblical Studies, and a number of private businesses, individuals, and churches in Texas and other states.

JUNE 15-19, 2012 (Saturday-Monday) — Tentative dates for a church/prison trip to Madison, Wisconsin, to visit prisons and churches, and present messages.  Chaplain Denis Kuhens of the Prairie de Chien men’s prison has been in contact with us and has asked us to come.  A Business Meeting will be held with people of influence to discuss the methodology for establishing a Seminary inside a Wisconsin prison, similar to what we have done in Texas, based on what we call the “Angola Model.”  More details to follow.

September 13-15, 2012 — Stiles Penitentiary for men, Beaumont.  The “One Day With God” weekend, partnering with Forgiven Ministry out of Alexander, North Carolina and other local volunteers and churches.  We will be bringing children of many of the inmate Fathers into the prison during this time, and ministering to the caregivers as well.  If you’d like to sponsor a child ($175, which includes toys, food, supplies for one child), or join us as a volunteer, (men and women welcome), call Kenny Lentz, at 713-298-3020.

September 22, 2012 (Saturday) — “Movie and Message” event at Beto Penitentiary, Palestine, Texas.  Grove will speak after the Chaplain shows the film documentary, “The Heart of Texas.”  A worship service that will fill the large chapel at Beto.  Details to follow as we receive them regarding gate time, event time, etc.  Setup Team:  We will likely need all of our equipment.
